Dorset Police have revealed the figure of how many emergency calls were received within the past 12-month period.

Around 123,000 emergency calls were received by police within the past year. The public are now being urged to only contact 999 in case of emergencies.

The force has asked, to alleviate pressure from police lines, to use 101 for all non-emergencies.

A spokeswoman from Dorset Police said: "Over the recent 12-month period, our contact centre received around 123,000 emergency 999 calls.

"On average, that was over 330 a day and doesn’t include the non-emergency contacts through call 101, email, or reporting forms on our website.

"Only call 999 when a crime is in progress, life or injury is threatened, or an offender is still in the area.

"For everything else, consider going online to keep the phones free for people who can’t use the internet."
