A SHOWCASE of live dance will celebrate 20 years of a Bridport youth organisation.

Limitless, which can be seen today and tomorrow, features Bridport Youth Dance (BYD), members of Luminous Youth Dance company and the BYD street dance crew.

The show celebrates 20 of Bridport Youth Dance and 30 years of teaching of dance and sharing a passion for dance and the arts by its founder - local teacher, choreographer and creative producer Nikki Northover.

Limitless is BYD's 18th annual production and will feature contemporary dance, tap and urban dance by the local talented young dancers.

It has been choreographed by Nikki Northover, Bec Ayles, Claire Benson, Aimee Symes and Polly Constance, with the young dancers also playing a major part of the creative process.

BYD are well known for leading the way with their high quality productions and is a beacon of excellence in terms of their work with young people in West Dorset.

Nikki said: "In response to the pandemic BYD has continued to offer exciting opportunities to the young people involved and to a degree the Covid 19 pandemic and the hiatus that followed with the sudden closure of the school and company enabled a new future vision for them. In that time BYD emerged twice with outdoor classes with live music and film work."

She added: "During the first lockdown a remote programme was established and in time an emerging programme was created which involved outdoor classes to live music from local composer Andrew Dickson and former LSO musician Nic Worters. At this time BYD danced in gardens, on beaches, they made films, and developed a site specific work - Cloud Nine - using our stunning natural landscape as a backdrop.

"Bridport Youth Dance is continuing to inspire and encourage local young people and helps to shape and define them. BYD empowers the young dancers and encourages them to forge ahead as dance lovers or future makers, shifters and creators."

Nikki says the organisation will continue to provide exciting, creative and artistic opportunities for young people so that they continue to be inspired and empowered through the power of dance.

After the show, BYD will be enrolling for the wide variety of dance classes available.
