A 21-year-old motorist has been slapped with a fine after driving more than twice the speed limit on the Tunnel Road in Beaminster.

Weymouth Magistrates Court heard how Benjamin Docherty was behind the wheel of a Ford on May 9 last year driving along the A3066 Tunnel Road, Beaminster, travelling at 61mph. The speed limit on the stretch he was on is 30mph.

On Monday, October 18 last year, Docherty, of Compton Road, Compton Pauncefoot, near Yeovil, Somerset admitted exceeding a 30mph speed limit in contravention of a local traffic order.

His case was adjourned until Tuesday of this week for sentencing.

Docherty must pay a fine of £400, a surcharge of £40, and court costs of £110 - totalling £550.

His licence was also endorsed with six penalty points.
