BRIDPORT have seen their Les Phillips Cup first round tie at Tavistock postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

The Bees had earlier been frustrated in their attempts to withdraw from the competition, with league officials ruling the tie should go ahead.

But after a deluge from Storm Eunice, the match could well be rescheduled for a midweek slot.

This could make league officials more receptive to Bridport's plea as the Bees try to fulfil their remaining league fixtures.

Caretaker boss Shaun Annetts has seven league games left to negotiate, with Bridport having lost 28 of their previous 29.

Bridport are on the brink of relegation with four more points for 17th-placed Street combined with three more wins for 18th-placed Ashton enough to condemn Bridport to the drop.

It means Bridport must win all their remaining games and hope Street claim just two points from the 12 fixtures available to them.

Bridport must first focus on reeling in Ashton & Backwell, who are 13 points ahead with 10 games to go.

FA guidance on relegation matters at Step 5 this season says: "At Steps 2-5, the Club finishing in last place in the table at the end of the Regular Season will be relegated and not reprieved."

Four second-from-bottom Step 5 clubs will also take the drop based on points per game.

Any hope of a Bridport victory looks extremely unlikely given how their season has panned out, with a goal difference of minus 137 in 29 games and no win for 24 matches.

Their sole victory came in a 2-1 triumph over Ashton & Backwell in late August.
