BRIDPORT Barracuda swimmers enjoyed a fantastic Dorset County Championships at Littledown in Bournemouth, setting 15 personal bests.

Eight swimmers qualified and attended these annual championships to compete against the best swimmers in Dorset over two weekends.

William Caplen competed in four events over the course of the championships earning himself personal best times in three events and made it through to the final to swim against the best eight swimmers in his age group for his 50m and 100m backstroke.

Holly Symes competed in five events and finished in the final eight for her 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke and a 10th place finish for her 100m freestyle with personal best times achieved in three events.

Oscar Vercoe continued the theme with a personal best time in his 50m and 100m backstroke and a place in the final for his 100m.

Jess St Barbe Baker swam in five events and came away with three personal best times and Izzy King qualified to swim over both weekends of the competition and gained a personal best in her 50m backstroke but was unfortunately unwell and unable to attend the second weekend.

Others who qualified to swim were Tommy Caplen, Kian Vercoe and Eva Cox who all put in a fantastic performance.

These championships mark the start of an exciting year ahead for the Barracudas, with new head coach Sophie Dawe at the helm of the club and many open meets and galas penned into the calendar.

Barracudas train at Bridport Leisure Centre and are a competitive swimming club offering swimmers the chance to compete in galas locally, through to national opportunities.
