Teachers have praised their school pupils’ performance of Matilda.

Students at Sir John Colfox Academy in Bridport staged the musical production from January 26 to 28.

The production, based on the classic children's book by Roald Dahl, showcased performances from talented students across the school, from Year 7 to the sixth form.

Adam Shelley, Headteacher of the Sir John Colfox Academy, said: “It was a fantastic production and everyone enjoyed it immensely. It was great to see so much talent on show, congratulations to all our performers and back stage team.

“I think for all of us the show marked a very welcome and joyous return to normality, although it was of course performed with Covid precautions in place. I would like to say a huge thank you to all staff who made such a fantastic event possible, especially Mrs Holder, Head of Drama, Miss Glover, Drama and Performing Arts Teacher and Mr Hocking, Head of Music.”

Emma Holder, Head of Drama at the Sir John Colfox Academy, said: “I was so proud, everyone was brilliant! We had two casts this year, as we had so many amazing auditions and so much talent that we didn’t want anyone to miss out.

“All the students involved worked very hard during rehearsals and at home, learning lines, dance routines, the music and the songs. Fantastic work was also done by our back stage team and everyone who worked on the sets and the costumes. Each and every person involved should be very proud of the hard work they put into creating such a wonderful production.”

Proceeds from the ticket sales will be used for new sound equipment for the school’s drama department.
