A community is being invited to come together and reflect following the tragic death of two teenagers.

The teens, who have now been named as Jack Michael Williams, 18, of Bridport, and Katherine Susan Jane Powell, 17, of Kenilworth, Warwickshire, were sadly found dead at Bothenhampton reservoir, within the nature reserve near Bridport, on the morning of Tuesday, January 25.

The deaths are not being treated as suspicious but police are trying to establish the circumstances on behalf of the coroner.

An inquest was due to open into the deaths today.

A service is being held at Holy Trinity Church in Bothenhampton on Sunday, February 6, at 4pm.

The priest helping to organise the service, Helen Croud from the Bridport Team Ministry, said that anyone who felt they had been affected by the news or wanted to show up to support others were welcome to come to the vigil.

She said: "We had lots of people reach out to us saying how the community has been shaken and how they need somewhere to gather to grieve after the tragedy here.

"Opening the church and having a service means that many different people of many different ages and from the wider community can share how they are feeling and find some support."

She added: "We have had a really positive reaction to the service - we have spoken to the town council, local police, funeral directors and the mayor and have invited them all to be there.

"It will be a very informal candle lit service of remembrance. It's just an opportunity for people to get together and reflect.

"Bothenhampton is a very close knit and supportive community and that is why it has been shaken so much by this."

Police officers conducting enquiries on behalf of HM Coroner of Dorset into the deaths issued an appeal for information last week.

Detective Sergeant Simon Lee, of Dorset Police, said: “Our thoughts are with the families and friends of the two young people who tragically died.

“As is normal in these cases, we are now making enquiries on behalf of the coroner’s office to establish the circumstances of the deaths. Therefore, we are appealing for information from the public to help us piece together the two young people’s movements prior to their tragic deaths.

“We are particularly interested to find out whether anyone has seen them in the Bridport and West Bay area between Saturday, January 22, and Tuesday, January 25.

“The man is described as white, approximately five feet seven inches tall and of slim build with short dark hair, a short beard and brown eyes. He was wearing brown lace-up boots, light grey tracksuit bottoms, a dark coloured T-shirt and a dark navy hooded parka coat that had a brown patch on the left arm.

“The girl is described as white, approximately five feet five inches tall and of slim build with dark brown shoulder-length straight hair and brown eyes. She was wearing black and white trainers, light grey tracksuit bottoms, a dark navy Puffa-style jacket and a pink scarf.

“They may have been carrying a pale green Nike bag.

“Anyone who thinks they might be able to assist with our enquiries is asked to contact Dorset Police.”
