Bridport suffered what is believed to be their their biggest defeat in 30 years, losing 12-1 to Millbrook.

Despite gifting a goal to the visitors in the third minute, when the decision to play a goal kick out from the back went horribly wrong enabling Rikki Shepherd to fire home past Bees ‘keeper Greg Taylor, Bridport were holding their own for the opening 30 minutes.

The home fans were stunned when in the ninth minute a cross from the left wing by Ryley Greenwood - Neate was rammed home by the advancing Antony Carlile to equalise.

This was the Bees first goal for exactly three months, which quite understandably prompted more celebrations than might be expected both on and off of the pitch. In the following 20 minutes Bridport’s Dan Baggs shot was blocked by Millbrook goalkeeper Chris Waring’s legs and Shepherd had a shot saved for the visitor’s after a 20 yard run on goal.

Jason Richards made it 2-1 for Millbrook in the 29th minute with Taylor in the home goal left flat footed as the shot found the net from just outside the area. Two minutes later Tom Payne benefited from a massive deflection for his shot from 12 yards for 3-1. Carlile sent a shot two yards wide from the edge of the box for Bridport three minutes later, but two scores for Millbrook in the final four minutes of the half sealed the game and set up a remarkable second half. In the 41st minute, Jake Owen conceded a penalty which Payne converted and the same player completed his hat trick two minutes later scoring direct from a corner.

Any chance or hope that the Bees harboured disappeared in the first minute of the second half, when despite a possible attacking handball, Shepherd scored in a goal mouth scramble for 6-1. Josh Toulson scored the seventh on a breakaway with 53 minutes elapsed, while Shepherd hit the post when clean through six minutes afterwards. Laurence Murray scored the goal of the game in the 63rd minute, volleying the ball home as it approached him from a free-kick before Shepherd scored twice in the ensuing minutes taking the score to ten. Dave Youlden scored with ten minutes remaining before Shepherd scored his fourth and Millbrook’s twelfth before playing out the final ten minutes.
