HAMWORTHY UNITED 4

BRIDPORT 0

BRIDPORT were knocked out of the Dorset Senior Cup at the quarter-final stage after a 4-0 loss to Hamworthy United at the County Ground.

Having lost 21 of 22 Toolstation Western League Premier Division games this season, Bridport were pitted against their high-flying Wessex League opponents.

And, while the Bees enjoyed many more chances and positive moments in front of goal than they have in recent weeks, the Hammers continued a trend of heavy defeats for Rob Marquis’ men.

Hamworthy, managed by former Torquay and Weymouth striker Tim Sills, took the lead in the 10th minute when ex-Dorchester midfielder Sam Lanahan tapped home Jack Lovell’s pass.

Bridport responded by having a Mike Hill goal ruled out for offside before Tony Carlile missed a great headed chance for 1-1.

Hamworthy feasted upon the Bees’ bad luck when Lanahan converted Max Wilcock’s cross for a 2-0 half-time lead.

Carlile was involved again when his free-kick was tipped onto the bar by Hammers’ keeper Lucas Barringer two minutes after the restart.

However, Wilcock added a simple back-post finish on 50 minutes for 3-0 and home skipper Lee Francis notched a fourth before the hour.

Lanahan missed a late chance for his hat-trick by hitting the bar, but Hamworthy were already comfortably through to the semi-finals.
