THE knowledge that their support contributes to making children in less fortunate situations smile at Christmas is the motivation for one company to back this year’s Dorset Echo Christmas Toy Appeal.

Dorchester Timber has very generously backed the campaign with a £100 donation, every penny of which goes towards helping to buy toys for children in Dorset who might otherwise go without on Christmas Day.

Jed Germodo, part of the sales and purchasing team at the company, said: “Dorchester Timber has always been fond of supporting local charity drives being a local company for more than 30 years and very fortunate to have been able to do so.

“This year is no different and what a way to close the year by supporting the Dorset Echo Toy appeal during the jolly holiday season.”

The building material supplier, of Miller’s Close in Dorchester, has backed the appeal for several years and is proud to do so again.

Mr Germodo added: “We’ve always loved the previous times that we’ve supported the Toy Appeal; knowing that we’ve contributed, along with some local companies, towards making children in less fortunate situations smile.

“A little top up of extra Christmas magic goes a long way for many of them. We also encourage others, maybe not now, but in the future to consider supporting this appeal too.

“It’s such a fantastic fundraiser that benefits so many children locally. Merry Christmas and have a Happy New year everyone.”

Last year, despite the pandemic, the Dorset Echo’s Christmas Toy Appeal raised its greatest ever amount of £5,432 and thanks to donations like this from Dorchester Timber this year’s efforts are well on their way to beating that figure.

In 2020 the toy donation boxes were not put out but that is not the case this year with Weymouth Rotary helping to collect the gifts for this year’s appeal.

Debbie Hellaby, Newsquest group promotions manager, said: “Sourcing, collecting and organising the toys for hundreds of children is not an easy task, the toys are usually matched to the age and interest of each child individually.

Toy donations made at the collection points located across the whole of Dorset were collected on Monday December 6 to be distributed to youngsters and are no longer in place.
