FIREFIGHTERS in Dorset have issued a warning to smokers to ensure they put out their cigarettes correctly prior to sleeping.
Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service (DWFRS) said that ‘many fires’ start because of smokers who fall asleep without putting their cigarette out properly.
A spokesperson for DWFRS said: “Many fires start when people fall asleep while smoking, so make sure you extinguish cigarettes properly – don’t smoke in bed, and always use a suitable ashtray.
“And always make sure you have working smoke alarms fitted on every level of your home, they could save your life.”
