STRONG winds blew over a tree onto power cables and sparked a fire in rural Dorset.

Firefighters from Bridport Fire Station responded to a report of a fallen tree in a field in Walditch at 1.49am today (Saturday, November 27).

Crews saw that the tree had fallen onto the power cables and caught fire.

Photos taken by firefighters show the tall tree had fallen onto the cables and the tip of the tree was alight.
