SHERBORNE TOWN RES 3

BALTI Sports lost their 11th game of the Jewson Dorset Premier League season as Sherborne Town Reserves claimed a 3-1 win at Weymouth College.

In a 2021/22 season which has seen Balti slip from a Supplementary Cup semi-final spot in May, to 14th of 18 teams come November, the Weymouth side’s home form has deserted them.

Their loss to the Zebras was the sixth in eight home games this term and the wheels were set in motion by conceding as early as the second minute.

Haydn Hodges’ cross in was nodded straight at Elliot Mann who remained ice cool to round keeper Andy Nott and score.

Balti were rocked but grew into the game and scored a counter-attack equaliser as Nott pumped the ball upfield.

His clearance found Danny Andrews who held the ball up before playing in Ethan Devaney to control and fire underneath James Smith, who got a touch to his effort before the ball crossed the line.

Level at 1-1 after 28 minutes, Balti then spurned two chances – the best coming when Rory Zima found Andrews who shot wide.

Balti were punished on 42 minutes partly through their own making as a stray pass set the Zebras away, Mann rounding Nott before cutting back for Hodges to bury the chance for 2-1.

After the break, Smith was fortunate to escape without conceding when a poor kick went straight to Matt Chambers who guided an effort wide on the slide.

And Sherborne applied the killer touch midway through the half when Mann’s cross on the counter forced Che Curran to turn home into his own net.

Balti boss Marco Nott told Echosport: “They saw the game out well, they seemed to be a very experienced outfit and a physical team. They deserved their win.

“It was a fair result. We didn’t have any excuses. We had 19 players available, we just didn’t turn up.

“We started poorly, got back into the game and probably had our best spell.

“They scored the crucial goal just before half-time which was a right blow to us because we were well on top at that point.

“Second half they saw the game out fairly well. We huffed and puffed and they got the third with about 25 minutes to go. It was disappointing.”

Balti now turn their attentions to a derby at in-form Dorchester Sports on Saturday (2pm).
