There’s still time to have your say on the future of harbours at West Bay and Lyme Regis.

Dorset Council is inviting views on its draft Dorset Harbours Strategy, which will provide direction as to how the harbours will develop over the next 10 years.

Action points included in the strategy include making the council-run harbours financially self-sufficient - Bridport (West Bay) is said to be currently running at a loss.

The strategy has been developed by Dorset Coast Forum working with the council's Harbours Committee, and will unify the harbours under Dorset Council's management while recognising the unique qualities of each. Weymouth Harbour is also included in the strategy.

As part of this work, Dorset Coast Forum carried out an initial public consultation in autumn 2020 and has been using this feedback to help guide the development of the strategy.

Councillor Mark Roberts, chairman of the Dorset Council Harbours Committee said: "We are particularly keen to hear your views on the harbour’s strategic goals and the actions around achieving those goals. We need to ensure this strategy sets achievable aspirations on how the harbours are managed so that they can thrive and continue to be at the heart of our coastal towns.”

The survey closes closing at midnight on Sunday, December 5. Have your say at https://www.dorsetcoasthaveyoursay.co.uk/dorset-harbours-strategy

Paper copies of the survey and strategy are available on request by contacting dorset.coast@dorsetcouncil.gov.uk or 01305 224833 and can be collected from the Harbour Master's offices.
