BRIDPORT are set to sign promising left-back Liam O’Shaughnessy on dual terms from Dorchester Sports.

O’Shaughnessy, a Weymouth Under-23 youngster, moved to Dorchester Sports from rivals Balti Sports in October and scored twice in two games for his new side.

The Bridport News understands his performances have caught the eye of Bridport boss Rob Marquis.

Dorchester Sports are understood to have waived Bridport’s seven-day approach for the defender.

And the Bees have moved to draft O’Shaughnessy in as cover for left-back Malakai Stanners, who is on international duty with the British Virgin Islands.

Bridport’s activity in the player market comes ahead of a home clash with Keynsham in the Toolstation Western League Premier Division on Saturday (3pm).

Marquis said: “Fortunately we’ll have Greg (Taylor) and not me in goal, so there’s a vast improvement on the last time we played them.

“It was a 3G pitch and they played forward-thinking football, thus we got a couple of goals.

“(It will be) interesting if they play the same game on our pitch because it’s not quite the same surface.

“It was clear they played their pitch very well. They’re very strong at home. They’re in the top half of the table.

“The fact we’ve scored twice against them gives you hope.”

Dom McAllister is suspended but Dan Baggs, Jake Owen, Curtis Hansford, Adam Steele and Jake Hawker could all return.
