A RURAL route through Dorset will close in both directions for three days for resurfacing – with a 26-mile diversion route in place.

B3165 in Marshwood, between Mutton Street and Hawkmoor Hill, from 9am until 4pm on Monday, November 15 and Wednesday, November 17.

The 2,360-metre stretch of road must shut in order to safely allow Dorset Council workers to resurface the route and carry out maintenance in the area.

A public notice from Dorset Council reads: “This order will enable Dorset Council to carry out carriageway maintenance and resurfacing works.”

During the road closures, a 26-mile diversion route will be in place, which will see motorists travel onto B3164, B3162, A35 and B3165 and drive through Bridport, Broadwindsor and past Charmouth.

Dorset Council say the reason for the length of the diversion is because the closure is on an A-road and therefore any official alternative route must use the same class of road.

Alternatively, there are a number of shorter but unofficial routes that drivers can take to avoid the road closure. These are not suitable for HGVs and should be avoided if using larger machinery.
