POLICE are urging motorists to not leave their keys in a visible spot in their homes - in a bid to reduce car thefts.
It is common for homeowners to leave their keys on a hook by the front door, which police are warning could result in a car being stolen by a burglar who could gain access.
Police are urging homeowners to leave keys where they are not easily accessible and never leave them in an area near the front door that can be access via the letterbox.
A spokesman from Dorset Police said: "Following our advice on home security will help you keep your most valued possessions safe and secure.
"Keep your valuables out of sight, including your car keys."
