FORMER Bridport boss John Godbold has re-joined Weymouth-based club Redlands.

Godbold, a former Wimbledon and Chelsea centre-back, returns as director of sport and education at the Rebels.

Godbold says his new position gives him a "wider remit" than his previous role at Redlands.

He said: "I am so pleased to be returning to Redlands, this time with an even wider remit as the director of sport and education of the club.

"It is a testament to Tim (Davis) as the chairman, and everyone at the club that even through all that we have endured over the last 18 months, the club have gained the Level 3 in the new FA accreditation structure.

"The club has a clear vision moving forward, and with some very exciting developments on the horizon and I see my role working alongside Tim and the new business manager, who will soon be announced, to use our combined expertise within sport and education to strategically plan how this vision can best come to life.

"In a changing landscape of health and wellbeing the role of our club has never been so important on so many levels."

Godbold decided to quit Bridport in May following a six-month stint punctuated by lockdowns preventing non-league football from action.

Consequently, he took charge of just one game - a 2-0 loss to Wellington last Boxing Day.

He flew out to the Middle East to take a soccer school job, which allowed the Bees to appoint incumbent Rob Marquis as their new manager.

But Bridport have struggled this season, winning just once in 14 games in the Toolstation Western League Premier Division.
