BEER and music delighted the town's folk at an 'Oktoberfest' style event.

The Bridport Round Table hosted Bridtoberfest Rocks - its first major fundraiser since summer 2019.

Visitors could sample more than 40 ales and around 15 ciders - the vast majority of which came from local brewers - and a selection of lagers.

And there was musical entertainment from local bands Stillyano, Shelby's Elbows and Hang 11, who got people up dancing.

The hastily-arranged two-day event to support local causes and give people a good time was held at Plottingham Playing Fields where a large marquee was set up.

The total amount raised from the event is still being calculated, but organisers are confident a good amount has been raised.

Andy Holdridge, secretary of Bridport Round Table, said: "It was a fantastic weekend, and despite the weather the turnout was great.

"We had one big marquee which people were able to go inside when it rained. But Friday was dry and on Saturday it rained in the afternoon then stopped around six so people were able to go outside if they chose to.

"We have to give a lot of credit to the bands for the atmosphere they created. Everyone who turned up seemed to have a fantastic time.

"We don't know how much we've made yet but we've certainly made a profit."

A decision is yet to be made on what the funds will go towards and Bridport Round Table is encouraging people to get in contact and let them know which local causes they believe deserve the funding, which will then be considered at future meetings.

The round table has decided that some funding will go towards the development of a new skate park at Plottingham Playing Fields.

Mr Holdridge said: "Considering it looked like we weren't going to be able to put on a beer festival this year, it has to be considered a success.

"This is what the round table do. We put this event on in very short notice to support local causes and we're all very proud of what we've achieved.

"We're very thankful for the support of the community and it was great to see the event so busy and so many people coming out."
