A MAN was rescued by firefighters last night after he fell down an embankment and into a river.
Crews from Bridport Fire Station, Weymouth Fire Station and Colyton Fire Station responded to a call at 7.15pm to help a 79-year old man who fell down an embankment and was laying in the River Winniford in Seatown.
He was said to be suffering with a shoulder injury and suspected hypothermia following the fall and was left in the care of the ambulance service.
A spokesman from Bridport Fire Station said: "One appliance from Bridport, tech rescue from Weymouth Fire Station and a level 2 rope rescue team from Colyton Fire Station were all mobilised to a 79-year-old male who had fallen down an embankment and was laying in a stream in Seatown.
"Crews used working at height gear and a 9 metre ladder to access the casualty and provide initial casualty care for a shoulder injury and suspected hypothermia.
"Once the casualty was rescued they were passed on to the ambulance service for onwards care."
