Some constituents have been in touch in recent days to share their thoughts on the UK, US and Australia deal, complaining that France was left out and we should look to review with them to be included.

I think we have done the right thing by agreeing this submarine deal.

France are actively forwarding migrants across the Channel. They are intentionally disrupting our fish supply chain and I think that it is time that our Government shows the French that if they are going to continue to treat a strong ally in this way, we are more likely to do business with other nations.

It would be remiss of me not to mention the queues at fuel stations in recent days. The Road Haulage Association and some fuel companies triggered panic buying through their news coverage and the only issues we have faced in Bridport and Dorchester are because so many people have panicked, that supply cannot keep up with demand thereby exacerbating the problem.

There are several issues here. There has indeed been disruption within the DVLA as a result of Covid and my work on the transport select committee has looked to challenge the DVLA that basically have suffered with too much working from home.

Some have said that the issue would be solved by immigration, but I disagree.

These fuel companies earn millions, if not billions in profit. The issue is not the lack of drivers in so much as it is a lack of drivers who want to continue in that industry. The conditions many drivers must endure are poor, with inadequate facilities for poor pay.

But, I think this is set to change. This is one of the Brexit disruptors that will work out well. Where well-off companies should pay their staff a fair wage, rather than take advantage of cheap immigrant labour just for their own profit.
