A TEN week project to stabilise a river embankment behind a trading estate is set to begin next week.

The Environment Agency will be working to reinstate and stabilise part of the River Brit embankment directly behind the Red Brick Café at St Michael's Trading Estate, Bridport.

The works will involve installing a new section of rock revetment, reinstating the failed kerb line and constructing a small section of brick flood wall.

This work will ensure that the flood defence line is repaired and back to its designed height through this section, providing protection to the estate and properties from fluvial flooding.

Works to set up the site, installing compound and bringing in equipment and materials will start this week.

The main works, when dumpers will start to haul block stone from the storage compound to the working area to construct the revetment, will be starting the following week commencing 27th September. The works are expected to take approximately 10 weeks to complete.

Access to the unit behind the café will be stopped whilst the works are being undertaken. This is due to the constrained working area and limited room available to allow a safe passage through the working area.

If access is required into any of the fenced off areas whilst works are taking place this can be arranged through the operatives on site as long as it is safe to do so and does not cause large delays to the works.

Part of the car park at the trading estate will also be closed for the duration of the project.
