BRIDPORT boss Rob Marquis believes the Bees’ FA Vase first qualifying round tie at Ringwood Town could be “a huge banana skin”.

Bridport travel to their Wessex Division One opponents as favourites on paper by virtue of their higher-league status.

However, after just one win from 11 games in the Toolstation Western League Premier Division, Marquis believes Ringwood will fancy their chances against his side.

“It could be a huge banana skin for us,” he told the Bridport News.

“They’ve got nothing to lose. They’re going to be up for it. If they lose, we’re a league above so nobody cares.

“We’ve got to go up there with the right frame of mind and attitude and give them the respect they deserve.

“They may be a league below us but the way we’re playing it could be the level we’re really at.

“With what I’ve seen of the Wessex League I’d say it’s harder in our league, but that’s no excuse.

“We’ve got to go with the expectation of getting a result and a positive attitude.”

Bridport warmed up for the FA Vase clash with a 4-0 home loss to Wellington in midweek.

However, striker Christian Blango went off injured and is doubtful for the weekend.

Asked if he was likely to be fit, Marquis said: “I don’t know. He had a knock the other day and was fit (for Wellington) so I’m not aware of it being something serious.

“He’s an older player so if he gets a knock he comes off. Hopefully it’s nothing major.”

Centre-back Finley Jarvis and striker Troy Walbridge could return for the Bees.
