DORSET is the third best place to find buried treasure in the UK, figures reveal.
Data from online-based retailer Jewellerybox reveals 87.2 finds of treasure per 100,000 people in Dorset - with a total of 331 finds since 2012.
The figures show Dorset was pipped to top spot by Isle of Wight (129.3 finds per 100,000 people), with the second best place for finding buried treasure going to Norfolk (100.3 finds per 100,000 people).
Since 2012, there were 184 treasure finds on the Isle of Wight, while there were 917 finds within Norfolk within that same period.
Jewellerybox used UK government data on treasure and portable antiques statistics to find the number of treasure and portable antiques discovered in and around the UK since 2012.
The county with the most finds overall is Norfolk, with 917 finds since 2012, followed by Suffolk with 581 and Essex with 570.
The bordering county of Somerset finished in ninth place to find buried treasure, with 49.8 finds per 100,000 people since 2012 - with a total of 281 finds within that period.
