THE Lyme Regis RNLI Lifeboat crew was called out three times over the bank holiday weekend.

The volunteer lifeboat crew took to the sea on three different occasions over the long weekend as a number of people found themselves in difficulties.

The first rescue of the weekend came at 12.45pm on Sunday, August 29 when a broken down speedboat had to be towed to safety.

The speedboat developed problems off Burton Bradstock and was initially towed by a fishing boat before the lifeboat crew took over the tow and brought the boat into West Bay Harbour.

The lifeboat launched for a second time that day following reports of two young people in difficulties whilst paddleboarding off Eype Beach.

The volunteer RNLI crew launched at 4.45pm but after finding no trace of the youngsters, the coastguard heard they had been helped to safety ashore by friends.

On Monday, August 30, four people aboard a dinghy were towed to safety after it suffered an engine failure and began drifting offshore.

The four people on board set off from Charmouth Beach but had trouble with the engine and drifted almost two miles from the beach.

The RNLI crew launched at 2.15pm and towed the boat back to the beach.
