MEMBERS of the public are being invited to join a free webinar which will explore local archaeological projects, recent finds and new developments in Dorset’s heritage.

Dorset Council’s Historic Environment Team will be hosting a free webinar with a series of talks about archaeological developments across the county. The interactive event will take place on Wednesday, September 8 from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.

The Dorset Past and Present session talks will be presented by a panel of four guest speakers, with the opportunity to ask questions following each presentation. The panel will be made up of industry experts from organisations including The British Museum and Natural England.

Attendees will hear about findings from the archaeological dig in Weymouth, carried out earlier this year. The dig unearthed remains from different ages, helping to tell the story of how life would have looked in Weymouth at different points in history.

The session will also feature a talk on Iron Age swords, which will include the discovery made at one of Dorset’s largest hill forts, Hod Hill.

Presentations about the work to protect and showcase archaeological findings will give details of how the new archaeology gallery at Dorset Museum has been brought together and insight into how the remains of human past are protected in the countryside.

Cllr Tony Ferrari, Dorset Council’s Portfolio Holder for Economic Growth, said: "This is a fantastic opportunity to hear about recent archaeological works and what they tell us about Dorset’s heritage.

“We’re delighted to welcome speakers from organisations who have worked in partnership with Dorset Council on these exciting projects to uncover and preserve Dorset’s rich history.”
