EMERGENCY services rushed to help two elderly people trapped in car after they were involved in a crash with a lorry this afternoon.

Police attended the two-vehicle crash involving a car and a lorry this afternoon on the A356 near Maiden Newton, along with fire services and land and air ambulance services.

Road closures were put in place but the accident has now been cleared and traffic is said to be easing in the area.

A spokesman for Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue said: "We received a call at 2:42pm today to reports of an RTC involving a HGV and one private car on Tollerford Lane, Higher Frome Vauchurch. 

"One crew from Dorchester and two from Bridport were mobilised.

"On arrival crews found one car had collided with the HGV with two elderly people trapped.  Hydraulic cutting equipment was used to release the casualties from the car and were left in the care of the ambulance service."

The stop came through at 3:12pm.

A spokesman for Dorset Police said: "We received a report at 2.18pm of a two vehicle collision involving a car and a lorry on the A356 at Maiden Newton.

"Officers have attended, along with the fire and ambulance services and road closures have been put in place."

"We do not have any update on injuries at this time."
