A SEARCH was launched to find a missing child who was thought to have gone into the water.

Two coastguard teams and RNLI lifeguards were called out at 1.40pm yesterday afternoon after receiving reports of a missing child on Lyme Regis beach.

There were concerns that the child may have entered the water so coastguards checked the beach and water line.

While searching, coastguard officers received word that the child had been found near Langmoor gardens.

A spokesman for Lyme Regis Coastguard said: "Lyme Regis Coastguard team was tasked to assist the police and the RNLI lifeguards search for a missing child on Lyme Regis beach.

"There were some concerns that the unaccompanied youngster may have entered the water.

"Two Coastguard teams were deployed to check the busy beach and the water line.

"During the search, information was received to say that the child had been found by the police near Langmoor gardens. He was reunited with his parents.

"For emergencies on the sea, cliff, river, mud, harbour and beach, call 999 and ask for the coastguard."
