A POPULAR town centre pub is hosting its annual birthday party for good causes.

John and Geraldine Baker of the Ropemakers pub on West Street are hosting their annual birthday bash on Sunday, August 29.

The event, dubbed ‘Party for Parkinson’s’ will see a variety of local talent putting on a musical showcase throughout the day.

All proceeds from the event will go towards Parkinson’s UK and local cancer support group, the Living Tree.

Mr Baker was diagnosed with emphysema nine years ago, and Parkinson’s seven years ago, and Mrs Baker has previously suffered from cancer, so both causes are close to their hearts.

Although Mr Baker is determined that this his condition will not affect the running of the pub, he admits some things will inevitably change. He sees this as an opportunity to raise money to help in the research to find out more about the disease and towards eventually finding a cure.

Geraldine, having gone through cancer is grateful to the Living Tree for all their help and support received from this group.

The event will take place from 4pm and in addition to the musical performances there will be a barbecue and a raffle.

Paul Jackson-Clark, Director of Fundraising at Parkinson’s UK, said: “As the UK’s Parkinson’s support and research charity we’re leading the work to find a cure, and we’re closer than ever. But our work is dependent on donations.

“We are incredibly grateful to John and Geraldine, for their support. I hope they will inspire others to take part in our events throughout the year.”

The annual event started seven years ago when the Ropemakers celebrated its 25th year.

Local talent performing on the day will include Grace and Jake, Bridport Broadsides, Rosie Smith, The Avalon Sound and this year’s headliners, the increasingly popular Skalatans.
