FOUR 'still alight' barbecues were found in a 'smoking' bin along a seafront - sparking a warning from firefighters to fully extinguish them before disposing them.
An off-duty firefighter from Charmouth Fire Station, who was in the area picking up family members in Lyme Regis, was notified of smoke coming out of a specialised BBQ bin on Saturday evening (August 14).
Upon opening the barbecue bin, he removed four BBQs which were 'still alight'. He also removed a camping stove 'which luckily didn’t have a gas canister inside'.
Photos taken of the bin show piles of disposable BBQs inside the bin with glowing red charcoal ambers clearly seen.
A spokesman for Charmouth Fire Station warned tourists and visitors to the seaside town to extinguish any BBQs fully before putting them in a bin.
He said: "We’ve been pretty quiet on here recently. Although the call outs have still been coming in for our village station.
"These photos below are of a BBQ disposal bin in Lyme Regis.
"We want to remind the public to enjoy using BBQ’s but please make sure you extinguish them FULLY before putting them in the bin. Even a BBQ bin!
"Coincidentally one of Charmouth’s crew members who was collecting family members in Lyme Regis was notified of this bin smoking this evening and removed four BBQ’s still alight as well as the camping stove which luckily didn’t have a gas canister inside!"
