A COMMUNITY joined forces to reach a resolution following complaints that a holiday park was storing its filled rubbish bins in their street, leading to litter issues.

Residents of Forty Foot Way in West Bay said they have issued several complaints in recent weeks after bins from West Bay Holiday Park were left on the street.

Residents said the bins were full to the brim, attracting seagulls who then spread the litter across the streets.

They also claimed the bins were on occasion left in parking spaces on the street.

Resident Jane Wain said: "The bins weren't shut so the rubbish was all over the street, seagulls were getting into them, tearing them to shreds and dropping the waste everywhere.

"It was very frustrating. Lots of people in the community go out picking litter and beach cleans, and then there is this big company which is just spewing it out on to the street.

"They were even putting the bins in car parking spots as there is so few parking spots available for friends and family so that was quite inconsiderate."

But residents are delighted after reaching an agreement with the park to keep their street litter-free.

Mrs Wain and other residents contacted Parkdean, which runs the park, and were able to get a response from the general manager of the organisation, Shaun Caesar.

Mr Caesar apologised for the the inconvenience and explained that the park would now have its bins collected from its loading bay.

Mrs Wain said: "It's great to see exactly what can be done when we all come together and let our voices be heard.

"To their credit, Parkdean responded very rapidly once they realised the extent of the problem.

"I haven't seen a single bin since Shaun messaged me saying they will keep them on site. We've had nice clean streets ever since."

She added: "Here's to a much nicer West Bay for both locals and visitors and even though it took a bit of being heard well done to Shaun for getting the job done."

A spokesperson for West Bay Holiday Park said: “We’re always willing to work with local residents to address any concerns they may have, and we were happy to resolve this issue as soon as we were made aware of it.”
