THERE may not be a carnival in Bridport this year but that hasn't stopped organisers from putting on a week of events in its place.

The 2021 Bridport Carnival was cancelled earlier this year due to uncertainties around coronavirus restrictions.

The carnival organisers are hoping to keep visitors and locals entertained through a series of smaller events throughout the coming week.

These events will include a children's painting competition, originally planned for tomorrow but rescheduled to Friday, August 20. Local children are invited to to paint anything related to carnivals, fireworks or bonfires on an A4 sheet on paper, sending entries to Joyce Dunford, c/o A.G. Down, 66 South Street, Bridport, DT6 3NN.

A carnival quiz will go ahead at the Ropemakers on Tuesday, August 17 from 7.30pm.

There will also be a bingo evening at Bridport Football Club on Skilling Hill Road, with doors opening at 6pm on Wednesday, August 18. The week of events will be rounded off by a darts tournament, also at the football club. Teams of three are invited to participate in the tournament on Friday, August 20 from 7.30pm. There will also be skittles games to join in with on the night.
