SUPPORT for struggling young people in Bridport will continue thanks to a £13,000 donation from an anonymous source.

The long-established ASPIRE project, which is now in its twelfth year, will now be able continue its work for a further year.

The free service aims to support young people struggling with life and its demands, and has continued to operate through the pandemic - reaching out to provide online support for all students struggling with mental health issues due to social distancing.

Voluntary project manager, Arthur Woodgate, said: “We feel very fortunate and are extremely thankful to have this work recognised and supported in this way, and by local people who seek no recognition for their generosity but who simply want to help ensure that something that clearly benefits young people facing difficulties in their lives is able to continue.

"And the really nice thing is that we didn’t have to ask for help – they asked us if we needed it.”

Sue Chudley, head of middle school at the at the Sir John Colfox Academy, welcomed the good news and praised the work of ASPIRE coordinator Charlotte Storey.

She said: “Charlotte's work through the ASPIRE project has again been invaluable to Colfox students. her guidance and knowledge, coupled with her dedication to helping youngsters who need support, is unwavering.

“Throughout the lockdowns Charlotte continued to support our youngsters and their families. This was of a great relief to them knowing that Charlotte was always available. She has never said no to my requests for her to help students, and she is quick to get to know them and their families.

"Charlotte is a true lifeline to many of our students both past and present, and we welcome her continued support.”

The ASPIRE Project is a free support service provided by voluntary company Bridport Enterprise Supporting Training Ltd working in partnership with the BYPAT (Bridport Young Persons’ Action Trust) charity.
