A GREEN space in the heart of Bridport has proven very popular during the past year of Covid restrictions as more people flock to open areas to enjoy fresh air, according to the trust that runs it.

The Millennium Green Trust is set to host its annual open meeting later this month, in which it will acknowledge the increased number of visitors to the Millennium Meadow, Wood, the Mountfield Lawn and Raised Beds.

The green provides an area for exercise and an escape away from the town centre with families, the young and the old enjoying the open space of the meadow, wood and gardens.

The area is run by the trust with day to day maintenance provided by Bridport Town Council.

Paul Bennet, secretary of the Millennium Green Trust, said: “The Covid lockdowns have resulted in more people using the wonderful open air locations and enjoying walking and relaxing outside. We have also hosted new events this year such as the Bridport Food Festival.”

Also being discussed in the meeting will be progress on items outlined in a five year plan put together in 2020 and thoughts on the identification of the mysterious 'Icehouse' near Mountfield. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, August 24 at 7pm in the WI Hall on North Street.
