A number of roadworks will be taking place across west Dorset throughout the month as workers continue to keep the county’s roads in a good condition.

Roadworks will be carried out throughout August as maintenance crews improve services in the area or fix roads.

  • A section of Wooton Lane in Wootton Fitzpaine will be closed on Tuesday, August 10 as workers access an underground structure and overhead cable, with the potential for excavation and erecting of new poles in the highway. There will be a 5.2 mile diversion route in place on the day.
  • A section of Grandfathers Knap in Fishpond Bottom will also close from Tuesday, August 10 and reopen on Wednesday, August 11. The closure is in place as works are carried out to replace defective poles and cut down trees to allow provision of new fibre cabling. The road closure notice will remain in force for five days but it is anticipated that the works will be completed on August 11. There will be a 3.1 mile diversion route in place for the duration of these works.
  • Works will be carried out on Kingcombe Road in Toller Porcorum, from its junction with Popes Hill from Monday, August 16 until Friday, September 17 , resulting in a eight mile diversion route into west Dorset. The closure has been requested to allow Wessex Water to carry
  • Whalley Lane in Lyme Regis will be closed from Monday, August 16 until Friday, August 20 as works are carried out to replace a defected wear course and fix blockages in the fibre ducts.
  • A 10.3 mile diversion route will be in place as works are carried out on Hawkchurch Road in Axminster. The works are being carried out to fix a connection into a main sewer in the centre of the road.
