A CASUALTY was rushed to hospital after being found by the police helicopter.

At 7.31pm yesterday evening, coastguard officers from Lyme Regis, a police helicopter and paramedics were called out to search for a casualty in Axmouth, Devon.

Working at height restraints systems and mud rescue equipment were used to rescue the casualty who was then taken to hospital.

A spokesman for Lyme Regis Coastguard said: "Lyme Regis Coastguard was tasked alongside our colleagues from Beer to help Devon and Cornwall Police search for a casualty in the Axmouth harbour area.

"The casualty was quickly located by the National Police Air Service (NPAS) helicopter. Both working at height restraints systems and mud rescue capabilities were deployed to minimise risk to all involved.

"With the help of the South West Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust and their Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) team, the casualty was successfully packaged and evacuated from the difficult location. The casualty was then taken to hospital in Exeter.

"For emergencies on the sea, cliff, river, mud, harbour and beach, call 999 and ask for the coastguard."
