A LEVEL crossing will close overnight for maintenance next week.
The 20-metre stretch of the B3390 at Moreton Level Crossing will shut in both directions for four nights starting Monday, August 2 from 11.30pm until 5.30am.
A public notice from Dorset Council states that the road closure will allow Network Rail to safely carry out maintenance works on the level crossing.
A 20.5-mile diversion route will be signposted in the area and will see motorists divert onto the B3390, A352, A35 to bypass the road closure.
A spokesman for Network Rail explained that they are replacing 'a number of joints on the level crossing' and explained workers would need to carry out the works at night.
He said: "We’re renewing a number of joints on the level crossing which keep the railway running reliably and safely as they detect train movements and allow the level crossing to work correctly.
"Due to the nature of the work, this can only be carried out night."
