A SCULPTURE has been stolen from a memorial bench in a town's gardens.

The metal wire sculpture is based on a bench in memory of both Charles Hulse and Joan Hulse in Langmoor Gardens in Lyme Regis.

The sculpture, called The Reader by artist Victoria Westaway, was placed on the bench in 2019 as part of the Lyme Regis Sculpture Trail.

A police spokesman believes the sculpture was stolen sometime between Sunday, July 18 and Tuesday, July 20 and an investigation has been launched by police officers.

A spokesman for Bridport Police said: "Bridport Police are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information to come forward after the theft of a metal wire sculpture from a bench in the Langmoor Gardens in Lyme Regis.

"This crime is believed to have occurred sometime between Sunday, July 18 and Tuesday, July 20."
