A YELLOW warning for thunderstorms remains in place for Dorset today.

Residents are being warned that heavy showers could lead to flooding and disruption on roads.

The Met Office warning came into force at 5am and remains in place until midnight tonight.

It applies to parts of the south west and the south east of England.

The Met Office has warned us what to expect:

  • Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
  • Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services
  • Flooding of homes and businesses could happen quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds
  • Power cuts might occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost
