A TWO-TIME Mayor of Bridport is being honoured on the day of his memorial service, with the flag outside the town hall flying at half-mast.

The flag at Bridport Town Hall is flying at half-mast today, to mark the passing of Clifford Samways, aged 88. Mr Samways served as mayor on two occasions in 1976 and 1991 and served as a town councillor for 46 years. He was also the founder of Samways Fish Shop.

Mr Samways passed away on peacefully on Wednesday, July 7. His memorial service takes place today at St Mary's Church at 1pm and all are invited to attend.

Current Mayor of Bridport Cllr Ian Bark will attend on behalf of Bridport Town Council.

A spokesman for Bridport Town Council said: "The Bridport town flag is flying at half-mast today, to mark the sad news that twice Mayor of Bridport Clifford Samways has passed away, aged 88.

"Our thoughts are with the family today, and we offer our heartfelt thanks for your service Clifford; rest in peace."
