I SEE the government intends to reduce the CO2 emissions from petrol driven cars by using a fuel called E5.
Adding 5% of non-renewable ethanol to petrol will actually reduce emissions by only a quoted 2%.
Boris Johnson clearly believes the project is more important than tackling climate change in a serious manner. It’s not his way.
As usual, the Tories don’t want to get in the bad books of the oil and gas industries but this ill-thought out publicity stunt is so thin a blind man could see through it.
If Johnson was remotely serious for a change instead of acting like a populist schoolboy, he would progressively cut the use of cars by one day a week and reduce the national speed limit to 50 mph.
These actions alone would cut emissions by no less than 15 million tonnes per annum.
