HEALTH workers and their supporters will be rallying in Dorchester today to fight for the future of the NHS.

Protesters are said to be gathering at the Town Pump at the top of South Street at 11.30am today (Saturday, July 3) for a socially distanced protest.

The protest has been organised by activists, as the NHS celebrates its 73rd anniversary this week.

A spokesman said: "Now as we battle the most serious pandemic in 100 years, with millions on the waiting lists, the NHS is being thanked and applauded but starved of real resources. Even before the pandemic, the NHS was struggling after years of government cuts, privatisation and 100,000 vacant posts.

"On Saturday 3 July, we come together across the UK to fight for the future of the NHS, so that it is there for our children and grandchildren."

The action group, NHS Workers Say No Dorset are making three demands to the government on what they feel needs to be done to help the public health service. They include making the NHS safer for patients and staff, giving the NHS proper investment and making the NHS reward, recruit and retain more staff.
