ORGANISERS of the Lyme Regis Lifeboat Week are keeping 'their fingers crossed' the event will go ahead as planned next month.

The group organising this summer’s Lifeboat Week in Lyme Regis - a major fundraiser for the RNLI - have held their final planning session, and are hoping that all events will be able to take place despite the current Covid restrictions.

The week is scheduled to begin on Saturday, July 24 and it is hoped the hard copy version of the programme will be available around the town – including the lifeboat shop on the Cobb - sometime this week.

For the first time this year the programme is available to download on the App Store for iPhone users and Playstore for Android users. It is also available on the Lyme Regis Lifeboat Week website to download as a PD4.

Lifeboat Week has been held in the town since the early 1970s and has raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for the RNLI charity. The last event in 2019 raised a record £40,000.

Ken Lavery, chairman of the organising group, the Lyme Regis and Charmouth Lifeboat Supporters, said: “We have a very full week planned including many old favourites which we have ensured will be fully Covid compliant with whatever the latest advice is.

“Our fantastic volunteers will be fully briefed regarding their safety and that of the public, and we are pleased that our event safety management plan has been reviewed and approved by the town council. We are very confident in the measures we may have to take to ensure we have a great and safe Lifeboat Week.

“Our fingers are crossed for everything, including the weather, of course.”
