FIRE crews across Dorset are raising awareness of child safety in water ahead of summer holidays spent at the coast.

Dorset & Wiltshire Fire Rescue Service (DWFRS) is urging the public to take note of the Royal Life Saving Society UK's warning to families spending time near water or by the sea during the summer period.

The warning was shared across DWFRS's social media channels and comes amid Drowning Prevention Week 2021, which aims to equip the public with skills and knowledge in order to make the right decisions about water safety.

According to the Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS), drowning is a leading cause of accidental child death.

A spokesman from RLSS said: "Drowning is a leading cause of accidental child death.

"Make sure you and your family enjoy water safely this summer by looking at Royal Life Saving Society UK's free water safety."
