A MUM is set to run the length of the Jurassic Coast to support two organisations which helped her daughter through her struggles with anxiety.

Emma Blake is set to embark on a 95-mile run from Exmouth to Old Harry Rocks.

She will be making her journey in stages over the coming weekend to raise money for Parrett and Axe Primary School in Mosterton and children's mental health charity, YoungMinds.

Emma's eight-year-old daughter, Finnia - a pupil at Parrett and Axe - has suffered from issues with anxiety over the past two years.

Emma, 45, from Beaminster, said: "2019 and early 2020 was a challenging time for our family as our eight-year-old daughter, Finnia, struggled to cope with her growing anxiety levels.

"It very quickly became apparent that there is a huge lack in the support systems available for young children suffering from low grade mental health problems. I felt totally powerless and let down by a system that felt reactive and unattainable.

"I had no idea where to turn and didn’t feel I had the skills on my own to know how to help my daughter."

Finnia and her family received 'tremendous' support from Parrett and Axe, Finnia's school, and YoungMinds - which helped her learn how to process and manage her thoughts and feelings.

Emma added: "We are incredibly proud of how hard Finnia has worked to get to where she is and we have had tremendous support from Parrett and Axe Primary School and YoungMinds.

"There are many many other children and young people out there who, like our daughter, need help and support to learn how to process and manage their thoughts and feelings in order to prevent them becoming teenagers in crisis.

"The YoungMinds purpose and mission statement is to stop young people’s mental health reaching crisis point and to promote good mental health to more children and young people than ever before."

After six month of intense training through snow, rain, thick mud, wind and blazing sunshine, Emma will begin her journey on Friday, June 25.

She aims to raise £5,000 to split between both organisations - 75 per cent to YoungMinds and 25 per cent to Parrett and Axe Primary School. She has currently raised more than £2,100.
