FIRE crews raced to a business park and evacuated a building after reports of a fire this morning.

Crews from Bridport, Charmouth and Beaminster mobilised around 8.20am to St Michael's Trading Estate.

According to Dorset & Wiltshire Fire Service (DWFRS) the fire was at a commercial property within the business park, which lead firefighters to evacuate the building on arrival.

A spokeswoman from DWFRS said: "At 8.20am today, crews from Bridport, Charmouth and Beaminister were mobilised after a fire at a commercial property in St Michael's Trading Estate in Bridport.

"On arrival staff had managed to extinguish the fire with a CO2 extinguisher and evacuated the building.

"Crews ensured the scene was safe and found the cause of the fire to be a faulty consumer unit. Weston Power were requested to attend to isolate the electricity to the property."

St Michaels Trading Estate has suffered heavy damages as a result of fire in the past.

On July 7, 2018, a fire tore through part of the Tower Building at St Michael's Trading Estate in Bridport, destroying art studios and offices.

Work is still being carried out to repair the building, and is expected to be completed next month.
