A SECTION of the A35 was blocked due to a two vehicle crash, where one person was cut free.

The A35 was blocked between Dorchester Road roundabout, Puddletown, and Cuckoo Lane, Troy Town turn off, Dorchester, due to a crash.

Police, paramedics and the fire service were all in attendance.

A spokesman for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Fire crews from Dorchester, Wareham and Weymouth are in attendance at a road traffic collision on the A35 Puddletown Bypass. One casualty is being extricated by firefighters using hydraulic cutting equipment."

A spokesman for Dorset Police said: "We received a report at 8.52am of a two vehicle collision on the westbound carriageway of the A35 Puddletown bypass, near to the Troy Town junction.

"Officers have attended along with the ambulance service and road closures have been put in place as emergency services respond to the incident."

Motorists are bring warned of long delays as the road will remain closed for a police investigation.

A spokeman for Highways England said: "The A35 in Dorset is closed in both directions near Dorchester between the A354, Puddletown, and the B3150, Stinsford, following a serious collision involving a lorry and a van.

"Dorset Police are on scene along with paramedics from South Western Ambulance Service, the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance. Dorset Fire & Rescue are also attending.

"Due to the seriousness of the collision a police investigation will be required and the road will remain closed for a protracted period for this to be carried out and for the vehicles to be recovered and the carriageway to be cleared.

"There is no official diversion route around this section of the A35, Therefore road users planning on using this section of road this morning are urged to plan ahead and use alternative routes. Please allow additional time for your journey."

Dorset Police has confirmed the road has now been reopened.
