A POPULAR festival on the Bridport calendar has been cancelled this year, organisers have announced 'with great sadness'.

The Bridport Beer Festival was scheduled to take place in June.

The festival, which traditionally coincides with the Bridport Food Festival, has been cancelled as a result of limitations due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Organisers of the event say they are hoping to be able to put on the event later this year but are unable to confirm anything at this stage.

A spokesman for the Bridport Beer Festival said: "It is with great sadness that the current Covid situation and uncertainty has caused us to postpone our June beer festival.

"At this stage we are unable to confirm if we will be staging another type event this year, however when we can confirm we will publish via our social media platforms.

"But watch this space, we know you will be disappointed reading this but we are without doubt not a group to be knocked down, even by a global pandemic and are busy preparing for when we can welcome you all again."

Bridport Round Table, the group behind the festival, is currently in talks with the Bridport Food Festival with regards to supporting the event in some way but has not confirmed any arrangements yet.

This event would have been the 14th annual instalment of the beer festival, which was also cancelled last year due to the pandemic.

The Bridport Food Festival will be taking place on the Millennium Green on Saturday, June 19.
