A CAMPAIGN group which aim to bring a refugee family to Bridport will be raising awareness of the project in the town centre this weekend to help raise funds.

Bridport Refugee Support Campaign will be holding a stall in Bucky Doo Square on Saturday, May 29.

The stall will offer a range of items, each donated by supporters of the campaign, including a range of china, jewellery, handbags, photo frames, DVDs and more.

The campaign's committee will be on hand to give more information about the campaign and to answer any questions members of the public may have. There will also be the opportunity to join the campaign's growing band of supporters by signing up at the stall.

The stall will be in Bucky Doo from 9am until 1pm.

Barry Lovejoy, chairman of the Bridport Refugee Support Campaign, said: “Everyone knows from their TV screens the plight of refugees from all over the world. Bridport is a big-hearted town.

"Our committee now has the task of raising enough money to be able to bring over a family and look after them in the first instance while they are finding their feet. As Refugee Week approaches on June 14 our campaign is hotting up."

The central aim of the Bridport Refugee Support Campaign is to bring a family to Bridport under the Home Office Community Sponsorship Scheme which is a safe and legal route to resettlement for refugees escaping from countries affected by war, persecution or natural disaster. The scheme aims to help refugee families become valued members of their new community.

If you have something you would like to donate you can take it to the Catholic Church Hall, 36 Victoria Grove on Friday, May 28 between 3pm-5pm, or bring it down on Saturday to the stall itself.
