MORE jobs could be created at a Bridport garage following a takeover by a national company.

Tyre company ETB has purchased the depot in East Road next to the roundabout from long-standing Bridport business, Top Gear.

The site has already undergone a refurbishment with new signage – and seven jobs have been safeguarded as a result of the takeover. New positions may be created in the future if the business continues to grow.

Top Gear moved into the depot in 2019 to carry out car services, MOTs and repairs. However, owner Steve Kilcoyne said that he felt the company should concentrate on the main part of its business - the sale of stainless steel exhausts and other parts - and that Bridgestone, the parent company of ETB, offered a deal which was 'too good to turn down'.

Top Gear will still operate from its main site at Gore Cross Business Park.

ETB Bridport carries out diagnostic work and provides tyre, battery, exhaust, air-con, brakes, wheel balancing and alignment solutions, as well as MOTs.

Manager of the new garage, Bridport resident, Sarah Gay, said: “It’s massive to have the backing of ETB and we’re all feeling so positive about the future. The strength of a national network like this will be a big asset to the business and we will be doing all we can to take it to the next level.

“We want to make sure that we always provide a really, really good service so that each motorist leaves with a smile on his or her face. That’s what we’re here to do and we’re now in an even better position to do it with ETB."
